When people think about pelvic floor health, they often associate it with pregnancy, postpartum recovery, or issues like incontinence. However, one crucial yet often overlooked factor in maintaining a strong and functional pelvic floor is the role of posture and core strength. At Go Physical Therapy, we take a holistic approach to pelvic health, ensuring that all contributing factors—including posture and core stability—are addressed in our treatment plans.
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues that provide support to the bladder, uterus (in women), prostate (in men), and rectum. These muscles work in harmony with the diaphragm, deep abdominal muscles, and lower back muscles, forming what is known as the core canister.
When functioning properly, the core canister ensures that pressure within the abdomen is distributed evenly, allowing for proper movement, stability, and organ support. However, when posture is compromised or core strength is lacking, the pelvic floor may experience unnecessary strain, leading to dysfunction such as pain, incontinence, or prolapse.
Posture plays a vital role in how the pelvic floor muscles engage and respond throughout the day. Poor posture—such as slouching, excessive arching of the lower back, or prolonged sitting—can create an imbalance in muscle activation, leading to weakness, tightness, or overcompensation in certain areas of the core and pelvic floor.
At Go Physical Therapy, our expert team specializes in pelvic floor rehabilitation, helping individuals restore strength, mobility, and confidence in their daily lives. If you’re struggling with pelvic health issues, don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to help you feel your best.
